With students settling into their classes and summer fading in the minds of students, ASB held the Back to School Dance on August 15 to usher in the new school year. The dance returned just as it had been for my last two years at PG High School (and likely longer): informal, in the Breaker Breezeway between the gyms and locker rooms, and with a neon, glow-in-the-dark theme. Despite the similar aesthetic, the Back to School Dance still proved exciting and brought many new memories for PG High Students.

Prior, students could buy their tickets at the ASB Store or on the sports-ticketing app GoFan for a price of $10 ($5 for ASB card holders). The low price likely encouraged the large turnout for this year’s dance as well as the event’s informal dress code compared to later dances like Homecoming and Prom. As for handouts, ASB offered water and Caprisuns while letting students decorate themselves and friends in glow-in-the-dark paint, ruining many shirts in the process. As for the DJ, Junior Clayton Rowston told me, “I really liked [the DJ], he really encouraged the atmosphere and helped create a fun and enjoyable dance. Overall, I would give him an 8/10”. The cramped, yet lively dance floor also allowed a variety of shenanigans to take place, from people jumping on tables to not one, two, three, but four backflips from Joey Grief (11). All in all, the annual Back to School Dance was a repeat success that helped students get back into the rhythm of school events.
