Since Pacific Grove High School first introduced their water polo teams in 2018, competition between PG athletes and Carmel has only grown. Their rivalry is now reflected in the annual Fin Game, in which the two teams compete against each other for the prized fin. This month, the girls team took home the fin for the second year in a row after winning a 14 – 3 game. The girls maintained a strong offense throughout the game; Ruby Browning and Charlotte Enterline scored 3 goals each, while Evie Murkison and Paige Houston both scored 2. More goals were added later by Kiersten Jones and Maezy Browning. Goalie Izzy Turner maintained a strong defense in the net as well. When asked for some final thoughts about the game, sophomore Lucinda Carrington shared that despite feeling some pressure after seeing the boys game, “we didn’t let that stop us and we came out with a lot of strength and confidence which pulled us through.” She also noted the importance of the team’s scoring, reflecting, “it always helps to have really good shooters on our offense.” It’s clear that the girls’ water polo team is on a winning streak that’s sure to continue next year, and in the meantime, everyone can look forward to an exciting remainder of the season!
