The Breaker volleyball season has gotten off to an exciting start! There are three teams this year: a Freshman/Sophomore team (Frosh), a Junior Varsity team (JV), and a Varsity team. These teams have started their season with a boom, displaying their talent, determination, and sheer joy to be on the court.

The Frosh team is led by coach Katie Garret. They’re a small but mighty squad that never lacks in energy. Freshman Rylie Pacheco sees the size as an advantage, “my favorite thing about my team is we only have 10 players so everyone gets more play time and we get to bond really well.” Rylie also explains, ”my team is interesting because we have different players on different levels and we all get to play together and help each other out!” Helping each other has definitely worked in their favor; the Frosh team started out their season with 3 wins and only 1 loss.
The Junior Varsity team, coached by Justin Cooper, is also on the younger side, being half freshmen. Sophomore Zoey Miller shares, “I love that we are always on the same page and relate to each other in some way.” Her teammate, Sophomore Emma Von Ruden agrees that “something interesting is how quickly we meshed as a team. I feel like from the beginning we got along super well.” They’re also off to a great start with a record of 5 and 2.

This year’s Varsity team has 13 players, led by a single senior: Avalina Dolowich. The squad is mostly sophomores and juniors besides Avalina, who expresses love for this variety saying, “I think it’s interesting that we have so many young players–it really keeps our team dynamic, chemistry, and energy flowing and we never fail to have fun on the court.” They’ve started the season off with 3 wins and 2 losses to a couple very tough teams. Junior Siena Cooper explains, “our volleyball team may be young but we’re building something strong with our hearts and hustle. We may have a lot to prove, but I know we will succeed.”
Coach Jody Garry, leader of the volleyball program, describes her goals for the season,
“My focus lies solely on the pieces we can control. Our work, effort, and focus in practice is what I care most about. Creating an environment where players can increase their volleyball IQ, take risks knowing they are supported by their teammates and coaching staff, and embrace the struggle of the season by leaning on each other”
Be sure to support our Breaker volleyball teams at their games and continue to cheer from the student section! The season is far from over so stay tuned and excited about the road ahead.
