But before diving into that game, let’s recap the volleyball team’s other games. First, the team dominated Monterey High School, sweeping them with a commanding 3-0 victory. Then Santa Catalina, a tougher game with closer sets, but our team still pulled through with another 3-0 win.
Now, onto the game against our rival school, Carmel. The stands were packed with Breakers, all fired up to support our team. However, the spirited crowd did stir up some controversy as chants from the student section became more personal and directed at the opposing players.
As for the game, the first set was close, with the final score being 25-20. In the stands the energy only grew, with Breakers fans getting louder with every point. The second set slipped away, as we lost by just a few points. That setback fueled our team to come back strong in the third set with a victory, reigniting hopes for a win.
Entering the fourth set, the Breakers started strong, gaining a lead of over 6 points. However, Carmel fought back, and soon the score was tied 25-25. What happened next sparked a heated debate. To put into context the next point was crucial—if we lost it, the game would be on the line. After what seemed to be a winning hit for the Breakers, the student section erupted in celebration. But after a controversial review by the referee, the point was awarded to Carmel due to an alleged illegal touch or lift.
That call ended up being a game-changer, ultimately leading to a 1-3 loss for the Breakers. Despite the tough break, it was a hard-fought game. Great job, Breakers!
