Although Pacific Grove High School’s golf team struggled this year, the season was not without success. The team, competing in the Gavilan Division, did not win any matches, but two golfers, Captain Serena Hunter, a senior, and Harper Lee, a junior, had excellent seasons.
Hunter consistently excelled, finishing as a medalist in over 75% of the team’s matches, even against top teams like Stevenson and Carmel. Meanwhile, Lee was a medalist three times. Due to these outstanding performances both Lee and Hunter advanced to CCS individuals. Hunter earned First Team All-League (5th in the Pacific Coast Athletic League), and Lee earned Second Team All-League (7th in the league). Even in all of CCS both golfers ranked well; Hunter was ranked 21st in all of CCS (338 people) and was second in birdies scored during matches across the entire section and Lee was ranked 36th.
Hunter was under par twice, and Lee once, with both golfers achieving low scoring averages: Hunter’s was 37.3 for nine holes, and Lee’s was 38.4. Reflecting on their accomplishments Coach Martine Remarked, “I am super proud of our girls and how they have helped our program grow from only two girls, (Megan and Serena) three years ago. Pacific Grove golf has always been an outstanding part of our school and community, and I look forward to seeing our girls succeed in the future. Pacific Grove golf is back!”
