On the night of Friday, March 7th, ASB Leadership held its second annual Dodgeball Rally in the PGHS gym. For the event, all lights in the gym were cut off to create a “glow-in-the-dark” theme as students dressed up in reflective vests and wore reflective paint to enjoy the festivities. Leadership put on a variety of head-to-head competitions to keep the crowd engaged, those being, school vs school, underclassmen vs upperclassmen, boys vs girls, and staff vs students. All games were open to all PG students in attendance.
ASB invited two other schools, Monterey and Carmel, to compete with PG in the main Dodgeball Tournament. The Breakers lost their first match to Monterey but went on to dominate their next game against Carmel.
Next, underclassmen played against upperclassmen-or at least somewhat, as some seniors had to be moved to the underclassmen team due to numbers. The game was very close and many jailbreaks had to be called to keep it flowing, but the upperclassmen eventually came out on top.
The last two games were between boys and girls and staff and students. The boys vs girls game was marred with multiple headshots traded between the two teams, while the boys group wound up victorious. Finally, the students easily beat the staff in their matchup.
Overall, the Dodgeball Rally was an exciting time for all who attended and participated. Sophomore Sergen Serttunc said about the occasion, “I enjoyed (the rally), it is a unique event that not many schools organize”. If you could not attend, Leadership is ready to bring back the rally for a third year!
