The final meet of the year for the PGHS swim team – PCALS. All swim teams compete at the Hartnell Pool and try to go to CCS. Events run from 11 A.M. to 6 P.M., ranging from the 50-yard Freestyle to the 100-yard Butterfly, or even the 500-yard Freestyle.
Senior Raysa Denton’s favorite part of PCALS is when “everyone sits together under the tent and eats snacks between their events.” She also enjoys watching all the different events and cheering people on before their races. Swimming in three events this year, she was a part of the 200-yard freestyle relay, and swam the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle for her individual events.
Other swimmers love the snacks that are given throughout the meet. Ranging from Uncrustables to homemade cookies and banana bread, the PCALS snacks help swimmers fuel up for their races.
Earlier in the season, the Boys 200 Free Relay team qualified for CCS during the meet against Hollister. While one swimmer got injured since that meet, the new relay team consisted of Kenji Gonzalez (12), River Merrick (9), John Stegge (12), and Kyle Thompson (10). To end the meet, the Boys 400 Free Relay qualified for CCS! The relay swimmers were Kenji Gonzalez (12), Nick Walsh (9), John Stegge (12), and Kyle Thompson (10). These two relay teams swam at CCS on Thursday, May 8th, and performed great. Congratulations to all PGHS swimmers for their hard work and stellar performances this season!
