Pacific Grove High School’s annual Homecoming week brought students together once again for an exciting celebration of school spirit, class pride, and the highly anticipated football game against Stevenson on Friday, September 20th.
This year’s theme, Candyland, gave a sweet twist to each spirit day. The week kicked off with Milky Way Monday, where students showed up in pajamas on what turned out to be an unfortunately rainy day. On Jolly vs. Rancher Tuesday, underclassmen came dressed as hippies to rep the ‘jolly’ side and upperclassmen boasted country attire as the ‘ranchers.’ Wednesday saw students pairing up for Mike & Ike day, matching outfits with one or more of their peers. The anticipation built on Thursday’s class theme day, with students showing off their respective Candyland themes before wrapping up the week in class colors on Friday.
The spirit week reached its peak during the Homecoming rally, where the newly appointed rally commissioners, Jasmine Booker and Savannah Hardy made their rally debut with a series of fun new games that invited both students and staff to participate. The rally and spirit week ultimately ended in a well-deserved victory for the seniors.
Friday evening ended in triumph over the Stevenson pirates! And thus, a reason to celebrate. The next night’s Homecoming dance, held exclusively in the breezeway this year, faced some minor concerns about space, but that didn’t stop students from enjoying a night filled with non-stop music and dancing.
