On Feburary 8 and 9 PGHS students participated in Monterey County’s annual teen-juried art competition, For The Love of Art, where students from over 20 schools submitted works. Art teacher Mr. Kelly informed the NewsBreaker that each school in the competition was limited to entering 5 students who started their projects with a 14 inch by 14 inch wood block and entered in one of four categorites- drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Vivian Ming walked away with the top prize of the night, and Alexander Yager received an honorable mention for his sculpture.
Several weeks prior, seventeen of our school’s students won a California Art and Scholastic Award, the recipients of which were judged by art professors at the California College of the Arts. The awards included Gold Keys, awarded to about 5% of the entries, a Silver Keys, and Honorable Mentions.
