As the weather turns colder and we return from Thanksgiving break, excitement is heating up across campus with the official start of the winter sports season. This year, PGHS has competitive teams in boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, and wrestling, each ready to build on last year’s progress and go even further this year.
Both the boys and girls soccer teams have been preparing steadily throughout the fall, and the early practices show promising teamwork and discipline. Both teams have diverse groups with returning players and some newcomers who will no doubt contribute to the long competitive season that lies ahead. Coaches from both programs emphasize that unity, communication, and resilience will be key in their mindsets this season. Looking ahead to basketball season, both the boys and girls teams are ready to bring energy to the court while also capitalizing on last year’s momentum. The girls team enters the season with a mix of leaders like senior Alex Giammanco, and talented new additions like freshman Jacqueline Souza who has shared some of her hopes for the season. “I just want to keep improving every day and prove that I can contribute to this team. I’m excited to learn from the older players, push myself in practice, and hopefully help us make an impact on the court this season.” Fans can look forward to high-action games all season long. The wrestling team is also gearing up for what looks to be a strong season. With the strong start from both soccer and basketball, wrestling is also bound for a fulfilling winter season. Across all sports, athletes and coaches share a common goal: fostering a positive team environment while representing the school with pride. As the first few games approach, students and staff are encouraged to come out and support the teams.
With talented teams, dedicated coaches, and a supportive school community, this winter sports season promises excitement, growth, and plenty of school spirit!
