Every year, the musical theater department works hard to put on a student-led show for the school to see. This year, they chose the Addams Family musical. The musical revolves around Wednesday Addams and how her “normal” love interest fares with her “unordinary” family. The cast and crew, ranging from 8th graders to seniors, rehearsed for months in advance to bring their show of choice to life for the student body. The show ran for two weeks, with showings Thursday through Sunday, each attracting a notable crowd.
The show’s runtime was around two hours with a 15 minute intermission in between the two acts. The show made a great use of the time they had, every minute being filled with something new and entertaining. Though there were a few storylines going on at once, they did a great job of distinguishing each one and bringing them together in the end.
The crew did an amazing job with set changes, making them seamless and quick to keep the show flowing. As for the cast, they truly embodied their characters, and gave great performances all around. Ruby D’Amico, a senior playing Morticia Addams, captivated the audience and made the character come alive. Oliver Taylor acted as her husband, and he played off of her extremely well. The pair were an incredibly entertaining duo to watch on stage. Taking on the role of Wednesday Addams was senior Aurelia Serpa, who did a great job of switching between Wednesday’s infamous cold tone and the character’s newfound, brighter personality. Playing Wednesday’s soon-to-be-husband was Scott Chambers, who used the character as his introduction to the school stage, with Addams Family being his first show at PGHS. He performed Lucas flawlessly, and made a great accompaniment to Wednesday.
Overall, the musical was a great success, and it garnered a lot of attention. Everything went smoothly and perfectly fell into place, making a great atmosphere for the audience. Though the show has now come to a close, there will be another one just as good next year to look forward to and attend.
