As the season comes to an end, the Boys Water Polo team shares a bittersweet feeling. This year has had its ups and downs, but overall, the Varsity team finished strong with an impressive 13-5 record. Throughout the season, every player showed improvement, especially the JV team, who completed their very first season. Junior Zayne Miller shared, “After losing many of our seniors, this year has been a surprising but welcome success.” Despite the roster changes, the team stayed close and continued to push each other during practices and games. Their teamwork and dedication in and out of the pool made all the difference.
This season tested the team’s endurance, both mentally and physically. Early morning practices, long bus rides, and tough matches challenged them every step of the way, but the players never lost focus. Every game brought lessons that helped them grow stronger as a unit, and by the final stretch of the season, the team’s chemistry was undeniable.
One of the highlights of the year came during Senior Night, when the Boys Water Polo team faced Monterey High School. The stands were filled with cheering families, friends, and students as the boys prepared for their final home game. PGHS took control from the very start, finishing the match with a commanding 15–9 victory. What made the night even more special was that only the seniors were allowed to score. It was a fitting tribute to the players who had given so much to the team over the years. Among them was senior Kai Clarkson, who made his season debut after being sidelined by an injury earlier in the year. His return added an extra spark of motivation for everyone on the team. “Seeing Kai back in the pool was amazing,” said one of the teammates. “He’s worked so hard to recover, and having him in the water again just felt right.”

Throughout the season, both teams developed a sense of unity. Shared bus rides, and post-practice laughs built strong friendships that made even the hardest practices worth it.
The coaches echoed that same pride. They emphasized how much each player had improved since the start of the year, whether it was perfecting their passing, tightening their defense, or learning to keep their cool under pressure.
As they look ahead to next year, the boys are confident that this season’s experience has set them up for even greater success. With rising talent from the JV squad and returning players ready to lead, the future looks bright for PGHS Boys Water Polo. And if this season is any sign of what’s to come, the best is still ahead.
