Summer is quickly approaching, and students everywhere are beginning to buzz with anticipation. The two-month break is a time to unwind, travel, hang out with friends, or visit family. The warm weather is especially ideal for spending time outside without any unfinished homework looming overhead and the sunshine encourages people to socialize and spend time in nature, which is a great way to shake off drained, stressed, or anxious feelings brought on by the expectations from the previous school year.
There are many unique ways to spend the two months of break and 136 PGHS students completed a survey to report how they plan to spend their summer. About 73.5% are planning to spend time with friends, closely followed by the 64.7% who are traveling. Freshman Avery Brubaker had been preparing for a two week trip to Albania with her theater group (Stellar Musical Theater) for their international tour. They will perform in parades, learn about the culture through different art or dancing classes, and participate in community service activities. Many people are also traveling, but some are planning to spend the vacation hard at work: about 52.2% of people are working and 18.4% are attending extra classes.
Despite the variety of plans, many students are simply looking forward to having free time. Even just staying home can be an important opportunity to rest, relax, and reconnect with the people around you. Whether summer will be filled with exciting adventures or chill times at home students will be looking forward to a well-earned break before the start of another school year.
