Since their last Newsbreaker feature on November 11th, the Breakers’ Boys’ Water Polo team cruised through a 5-game winning streak to finish their season at 18-5 with a 6-1 record in their league, while the Girls’ Water Polo team ended at 13-9 with a 4-2 record in their league.
The end of the Boys’ Water Polo season included a stop at the Silicon Valley Tournament over the October 27th Weekend. dominant wins against Monte Vista and Westmont with scores of 21-6 and 14-8 respectively, while they encountered a closer game against Willow Glen with a victory of 16-12. Senior River Lyon ended the season with an outstanding 99 total goals over 23 games along with 15 goals and 10 steals in the Silicon Valley Tournament alone. On the defensive side, Senior Matias De La Garza has tallied up a total of 196 saves with 27 coming in the three games of tournament play. The team finished second in their division only behind Stevenson.
On the Girls’ side, they won their last two games to finish their season on a two-game winning streak. On October 21st, they won in a dominant fashion against Gilroy High School, 16-4. Three days later, on October 24th, they beat league-rival Carmel in a 10-9 nailbiter with three goals from Senior Lilikoi Wright and 14 saves from Junior goalkeeper Izzy Turner. The win capped off a league record of 4-2 only behind Stevenson in the standings. The Girls’ team missed out on a spot in the PCAL tournament and therefore the sectional CCS playoffs.
The Boys’ team had a chance to enter the CCS tournament with wins in the PCAL league tournament between October 29th and November 1. However, they fell in their first game to rivals Carmel 16-13 despite nine goals from River Lyon (12) and two from both Zach Pechan (12) and Rowen Meyer (12).
