The cross-country season is officially underway, having held its first league meet on September 17th. The boys’ varsity team secured second place, the girls’ varsity team placed fifth, and the boys’ frosh/soph team won their division, sweeping the first five places, which is very impressive. They have had two invitational meets and one league meet so far, one of which was at the famous Laguna Seca race track. The team has been working hard in practice and is putting in efforts to expand their strengths. They have been working hard, almost 6 days a week, powering up hills and doing long runs by the water.
Here are some insights of what Coach John Gabrik thinks about this season, “I think the notable highlight would be the freshman boys have won every meet we’ve attended so far,” as well as, “We have an exuberant group of freshmen.” It seems he expects big things from the team this 2025 season and is excited to see them tackle future meets successfully.
Other remarkable standouts are multiple freshmen doing exceptionally well on the varsity team, holding their own against high-level runners. On the girls’ side, Sofia Liddell and Eleanor Holt have both placed in the top ten, beating out over forty other girls. With the boys, Betinho Zunguze and Tadeo Ortiz both placed on the varsity podium, with Betinho placing second and Tadeo third. The team has done excellent so far and can only improve, so look forward to the team lacing up with enthusiasm and determination as the season progresses.
