Last Monday night, the gym was packed with fans as our varsity volleyball team faced off against longtime rival, the Carmel Padres. The gym was pumping from the first serve, and the crowd’s energy fueled every play. The match stretched 3 intense sets, with both teams trading points and momentum. In the end, it was our Breakers who came out on top, claiming a 3–0 victory.
The first two sets were a battle of nerves, with Carmel taking the lead in the first few points. The Breakers didn’t wait long to bounce back and be tied at 23-23. The Breakers eventually pulled ahead winning the first set. Our senior, Avalina Dolowich led the offense with many play-winning kills, while libero Simka Dolowich’s diving saves kept rallies alive. Although they were up, the Breakers refused to let momentum slip away. In the second set, junior blocker Bri Morenz came alive at the net, racking up kills and crucial blocks. The crowd erupted as PG pulled away for a dominant victory.
After the final point hit the floor, the gym erupted. Students and parents joined in victory as the team celebrated midcourt, proud of their hard-fought win. With this victory, the Breakers not only extended their winning streak but also achieved their teamwide goal of defeating the Padres and making CCS. The team has shown great fight and achievement all season long, representing Pacific Grove High School as one of the best teams in the league.
