Every year, the air is filled with excitement during Shoe Week in anticipation of the Shoe Game. One of everyone’s favorite Shoe Game activities is the Thursday morning hall decorations. Students of every grade excitedly show up as early as 5:00 in the morning to deck out their halls based on their theme. This year was no different, and the resulting halls were a sight to see.
The freshmen were new to hall decorations this year, but they were sure to make their hall stand out with their Beauty and the Beast theme. Around the railings and poles they wrapped green paper vines with roses scattered around them. They used the same idea for the floor, making paper rose bushes to line the hall. The freshmen also had yellow paper along the walls and red paper on the center of the floor. To top it all off, there was a large castle with Belle and the Beast on it decorating one wall, and yellow streamers with red bows adorning another.
The sophomores were their own Fairy Godmothers, transforming their hall into their Cinderella theme. They had a paper red carpet lining the length of their hall, and blue streamers shimmering on the doorways. On the wall was a large cutout of Cinderella, accompanied by cutouts of her mice, Jaq and Gus. On top of the entrance to the hallway was a sign with the Fairy Godmother’s famous “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo” quote, and there was chalk art on the floor, further adding to the theme.
The juniors spent the day “under the sea,” having The Little Mermaid as their theme. Welcoming everyone into the hallway was chalk art depicting a mermaid tail and kelp, and chalk words saying “Mermaids Welcome.” Along with this, there was a balloon arch with different shades of blue encompassing the entryway walls and ceiling. There was an underwater scene attached to the railing, featuring different sea creatures with football player’s names on them. Among these creatures was a cutout of the mermaid Ariel.
The seniors went all out on their hall, easily winning the competition with their Tangled theme. The boys’ bathroom was decorated with vines and flowers leading up the railing, and purple paper along the floor. The beginning of the walkway to the bathroom said in chalk “Walk in if you’re a princess”, and there was other chalk art around it. Pink flowers poked out of lockers throughout the hall, and yellow and white flowers were stuck on the outside. Hanging from the ceiling were yellow paper swirls, and further down the hall were cutout white and purple lanterns. Within the paper swirls there was a hanging cardboard feature with the silhouettes of Rapunzel and Flynn in a boat. One of the main focal points of the hall was the entryway, adorned with a purple and white balloon arch and a large chalk drawing of the iconic Tangled sun.
The hall decorations were fun for all, and walking through them was a highlight of Shoe Week. From the seniors’ Tangled sun to the sophomores’ Cinderella cutout, it was a successful year, and we can all look forward to the next one!
