This week the Newsbreaker staff asked nearly two hundred PGHS students for their opinions on everything Halloween! Here are the results. The first question we asked was how they plan to spend Halloween night. 39% of students stated that they planned on going to a party or other social gathering. Trick or treating followed closely behind, accounting for 38% of students. 14% of students stated they had no plans. The remaining respondents had a wide range of replies, from finishing college applications to work and homework. We also asked whether students were planning on dressing up for the occasion. The overwhelming majority, 80%, of students said that they were going to dress up. Interestingly, the number of students who planned on wearing their costumes to school was significantly lower, at 53.5%. When asked what they were planning on wearing, there was vast variation. The most popular costume stated was a Pirate at seven people followed by the Minion, with a staggering six people planning to be the popular figure. Other popular costume choices were characters from Sesame Street, Vampires, and Cowboys. Other costumes include a Tellitubby, a Human-Eating Tree, and much, much more. Lastly, we completed our survey by asking students exactly how old is too old to go trick or treating. Some thought that as young as eleven years old was too young while nearly 60% of students agreed that there is no upper age limit. Some noted that it starts becoming less common to go once one graduates high school or can buy candy at the grocery store by themselves. Overall, opinions greatly vary on the subject and students should do as they best see fit. The PGHS student body is a unique group with diverse opinions on everything Halloween!
